Sunshine Short Film Festival Rules

Registration

Registration is free for those within Victoria, Australia. $15.00 AUD for all others.

Categories

  • Made in Victoria – at least one of the (Producer, Director, Writer) principle creatives need to have a Victorian address.
  • From Everywhere else: Anywhere not in Victoria, Australia.

Judging

It’s both a People’s Choice Award and a Juried Prize. The festival coordinators will make an initial short list of films to screen at the Festival screenings.

There will be a prize for the most popular film in each category as voted by the audience at the festival screening.

All decisions will be final.

Registration and Entry Guidelines

  • Registration and submission of the film must be completed by Wednesday 23 September 2020
  • For the 2020 festival we are waiving the 5 minute limit on films, your film can be of any length as long as it meets the other criteria for entry.
  • The film must fit into the comedy genre. Yes, Hanna Gadsby’s Nanette is a comedy….
  • You need to have read and understood all the terms and conditions. Please contact us if you have any questions. Submission of your film is an indication to us that you have signed off on all the terms and conditions.
  • SSFF will upload screened films to the SSFF YouTube channel following the Festival Screening unless the filmmaker specifically requests a 12-month moratorium from the date of the festival screening on posting the film online to allow for entry to other festivals.

Corona Virus Rule Modifications

  • We have opened up to international entries through FilmFreeway and already have a bumper crop of films to chose from.
  • Elimination of the 5 minute limit on films. Your films can be as long as they need to be. Anything under an hour (60 minutes) is considered a short and anything over an hour is a feature.
  • The theme is still comedy. Your film needs to fit in a broad definition of the genre of comedy. We are still prioritising films that address social issues through comedy but otherwise anything goes.
  • To allow for the inclusion of as many films as possible including features we are looking at extending the festival screenings to multiple screening days which will include an online streaming component.
