The Millennium Man Trophy

Millenium ManFor the first time ever we will unveil and present the Millennium Man Trophy to all 1st prize winners of this year’s Sunshine Short Film Festival. The Millennium Man Trophy will be similar to the Academy Award’s Oscar but relative to Sunshine cinema history. The Millennium Man Trophy will become a unique collectors item!

Millennium Man also known as ‘Future Man’— is a silver figure of a strongman holding a globe circled with a film strip. Millennium Man was first installed at Village Cinemas Sunshine at the Marketplace Shopping Centre in the late 1990s, and would light up at night. While New York has the Statue of Liberty and Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Sunshine can boast the Millennium Man, but he needs help…. The Sunshine Business Association is planning to restore Millennium Man back to his former shining glory by seeking community and business support in raising the needed funds.

Andrew Robb’s documentary about the Millennium Man, made for the 2015 SSFF, is helping us gain attention to Millennium Man’s needed repairs. Watch the documentary on our YouTube channel.

A replica of Millennium Man is being sculptured by internationally recognised sculptor Anton Hasell (creator of the Federation Bells in Birrarung Marr Melbourne) and small souvenir replicas will be made and sold to the public to raise funds. Details of these will be online in July.  If you want to financially assist in the restoration of the Sunshine Millennium Man please email us on: marketing@sunshinebusiness.com.au or call 0455 0455 45 for further details.
